God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.

Support groups are important for the person with an addiction but equally important for parents, spouse and other key people who need hope and healing in their lives:

Two are better than one,
Because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down,
His friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
And has no one to help him up!
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Through one may be overpowered,
            Two can defend themselves
A cord of their strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12.

12 Step Programs: The recommendation is 90 meeting in 90 days....begin to build your support foundation as soon as possible...

Alcoholics Anonymous  Narcotics Anonymous  Families Anonymous
Call local numbers and ask questions to find best program for you & your Family
Al-Anon - excellent support group for parents, spouse, friends, children and siblings of a person suffering with addict...has a very good teen program)
Try to attend at least 3-4 meetings before giving up then try another group. It may take a few months to find a “home” group...it is worth the effort whether it is an AA, NA .... or Al-Anon group.  These meetings can not only give your friends who will be supportive but hope to continue when you feel like you can no longer make it.

Call your local anonymous groups to ask them which meetings will best fit your situation. Most of the time they are very helpful and offer good information. This is a great way to build a support group. These new friends will help you with remaining abstinent.

arpoWe are a bi-national organization in the U.S. and Canada, comprised of people who have been adversely affected by the consequences of the massive over-prescribing of prescription opioid pain pills, otherwise known as narcotics. We are bereaved parents, siblings and spouses, families of those suffering through an addiction, pain patients, doctors, and citizen advocates working toward more balanced care for patients who suffer from chronic pain, without causing harm to them and to the general public.
