- An estimated 4 million persons in the United States have HVC infection .
- Most people do not know they are infected because they don’t look or feel sick.
- 70-85% have chronic hepatitis C.
- HCV is the leading cause of liver transplantation in the U.S and is a risk factor for liver cancer.
- 20% -25% of people with HVC will develop cirrhosis
- There are 8,000-10,000 deaths related to HCV/year.
